Course description

This course is a part of the training series prerequisite module for the Enhanced Construction Managers’ Training And Certification Program (E-COMTCP).

  • Understand the various approaches in the preparation of construction project schedules
  • Learn the scheduling tools, and demonstrate the use of these tools in managing the time in construction projects
  • Apply the acquired knowledge and techniques to obtain accurate construction schedules, and to control these schedules to succeed in projects

  1. Introduction to Construction Project Time Management
    • Focus Areas in Managing Projects, Interfaces in Cost Management, Critical Success Factors, and The Conceptual Framework of Construction Project Cost Management
  2. Activity Definition
    • Inputs: Work Breakdown Structure, Scope Statement, Historical Information, Constraints, and Assumptions
    • Tools and Techniques: Decompositions and Templates
    • Outputs: Activity List, Supporting Details, and Work Breakdown Updates
  3. Activity Sequencing
    • Inputs: Project Description, Mandatory Dependencies, Discretionary Dependencies, and External Dependencies
    • Tools and Techniques: Precedence Diagramming, Arrow Diagramming, Conditional Diagramming Method, and Network Templates
    • Outputs: Project Network Diagram, and Activity Lists Updates
  4. Activity Duration Estimating
    • Inputs: Resource Requirements, Resource Capabilities, and Historical Information
    • Tools and Techniques: Expert Judgement, Analogous Estimating, and Stimulation
    • Outputs: Activity Duration Estimates, and Basis of Estimates
  5. Schedule Development
    • Inputs: Resource Pool Description, Calendars, Leads and Lags
    • Tools and Techniques: Mathematical Analysis, Duration Compression, Resource Levelling Heuristics, and Project Management Software
    • Outputs: Project Schedule, Suppporting Details, Schedule Management Plan, and Resource Requirment Updates
  6. Schedule Control
    • Inputs: Performance Report, and Change Request
    • Tools and Techniques: Schedule Change Control, Performance Measurement, and Additional Planning
    • Outputs: Schedule Updates, Corrective Actions and Lessons Learned
