Introduction

English is spoken by 1 billion people but its significance is greater as Modern English, sometimes described as the first global lingua franca, is the dominant language, or in some instances, even the required international language of communications, science, information technology, business, seafaring, aviation, entertainment, radio and diplomacy. The purpose of this English language programme is to enable the participants to excel and to find the teaching approach interesting, enjoyable and rewarding.

There are several levels in the programme – beginners, elementary, lower intermediate, intermediate and advanced.

Elementary Level Course

Profile of Course Participants

Course attendees will have a basic understanding of English and be able to speak and understand several words and use simple phrases but without grammatical construct.

Expected Outcome

To advance the participants understanding of English so that they are able, with confidence, be able to speak, understand and join in a basic conversation and write simple sentences.

Course Structure/Content

The course uses interactive participative exercises and covers the meaning of words and phrases together with pronunciation, reinforced with controlled and free practice.

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Verbs-affirmative, interrogative, negative
  • Questioning
  • Singular, plural
  • Possessive
  • Pronouns
  • Prepositions
  • Countable and uncountable nouns
  • Everyday situations including, place, time, weather

Assessment

In class and end of course evaluations with a pass mark of 70% resulting in achievement certificate.

Duration

24 hours class participation plus homework and away from class preparation.

Barry Corware

PROFILE

A General Manager, Consultant and Trainer who has successfully worked with many international
companies primarily in the financial services sector. He has lived in Asia, USA and UK and is now
living permanently in the Philippines moving here from his native England.

He has been working in the Philippines training call centre staff to improve their verbal interaction
with English speaking customers.

He has worked with his employers to identify target markets and implement strategies for
maximising the opportunities having developed specialised training programmes for sales and
support staff.

Adopts inclusive interactive training approach.

Strength in solving problems by looking outside the box and converting them into opportunities.
Builds trust with clients and staff resulting in mutually beneficial relationships and a motivated

Besides teaching/training he is currently working with a Philippine Foundation which is supporting
the education of children from poverty stricken families. He has developed fundraising programmes
and is providing on going management and marketing directives. He was previously working with
a UK based charity. One recent assignment was for a Call Centre where he identified a gap in the
expertise of call centre staff that were not engaging with the people being contacted. He developed
a successful training programme to help ensure that there is a positive interaction with all contacts
whether prospects or existing customers.

Previously he has been an Executive Director of several international companies primarily in the
financial services sector and has been instrumental in helping these organisations develop and
grow in an ever changing economic environment.

He is a TEFL Certified Teacher of English and with his experience brings a wealth of knowledge
and understanding which will make his course interesting and enjoyable but also provide the
participants with a different perspective on how the English language is being used today because
he has lived and worked in so many countries across the globe.
