Synopsis:

The training provides a supplementary course on engineering materials, basic structures, properties and applications. This contents are essential technical knowledge for manufacturing engineers in order to analyze and solve materials related problems and concerns. It will focus on failure in materials that will help engineers in making decisions for continuous improvement.

This course is divided into three main parts:

The first part includes the classifications of materials, its chemical structure that relates electrons to energies, bonding scheme of the different materials, the crystal structures and imperfection in solids.

The second part covers the basic classification of materials, the different properties that defines its response to the different energies applied to it, such as mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical, environmental etc. This includes concepts on stress and strain, phase transformation, eutectic temperature of some alloys, electrical conductivity etc.

The third part is on application and processing of specific material (metals, ceramics and polymer). This will include failure analysis and testing of materials. Some specific problems encountered during manufacturing, and some concerns on quality and reliability will also be discussed.

Who must attend:

  • Technicians, supervisors, quality engineers, process engineers and development engineers
  • Decision makers, policy makers, and managers

Engr. JESSICA M. CASTILLO

Engr. Castillo is a full time lecturer in Malayan Colleges in Laguna since 2009. She has more than 10 years experience in teaching, first in Samson Technology and University of Santo Tomas (1977-79) and a few years ago in Lyceum of the Philippines Calamba (2003-2007). Among the courses that she teaches are Fundamentals of Material Science and Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Safety management, Quality Management and Engineering Management. She also conducts lectures on topics of her advocacy, i.e. related to the environment.
Jaec as she is fondly called by her colleagues has more than 20 years of experience in Electronics and Semiconductor Manufacturing: Twelve years in Analog Devices Phils. Inc.(1984-96), six years in Cypress Semiconductor Phils. Inc., (1996- 2001) 1 year in Integrated Manufacturing Inc., (1983-84) 1 yr in Sigmatech Inc. (2006-07) and 6 month in PSI Technologies Inc.(2002-03).

She is a licensed of Electronics and Communications Engineer who graduated from University of Santo Tomas in 1977. She took up her Masters of Science in Physics of Electronics and Semiconductor Devices at Bombay University in (1979-1981) and later practiced as Scientific Research Assistant at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai, India) for six months. Currently she is pursuing her Ph. D. in Electronics Engineering under Mapua Inst. of Technology.

Being a believer of Outcomes Based Education, she hopes that after the training the attendees are able to perform better in their particular job.
